Meesho Safe-T Claim Guide: How to Get Refund for Damaged Returns

Understanding Meesho Safe-T Claims & Return Fraud

Returns are an unavoidable part of selling online, but returns fraud shouldn't be. Many Meesho sellers face cases where customers return empty boxes, old clothes, used footwear, or completely different items instead of the original product. In other cases, courier partners lose or damage inventory during transit.

To protect sellers from these losses, Meesho has a reimbursement mechanism known as Safe-T Claims. When a returned package is incorrect or damaged, you can submit a claim to recover your sourcing cost. However, the approval process is strict, and a single mistake in your evidence will result in a rejection. Make sure to implement our Meesho Returns Fraud Prevention Checklist to protect your warehouse operations and secure your claims.

The Return Margin Leak

If your return rate is 30% and return fraud accounts for 10% of those returns, you are losing up to 3% of your gross margins to fraud. Filing claims systematically is the only way to recover this missing profit.

Strict Rules for Safe-T Claim Eligibility

To increase your chances of claim approval, you must satisfy Meesho's strict validation parameters:

  • Filing Window: You must raise the claim within 7 days of the RTO or customer return delivery date.
  • Awb Label Intact: The shipping label (AWB) on the outer package must be clearly legible and attached. If the label is torn or missing, the claim is almost always rejected.
  • Undamaged Packaging for Scams: If the customer has swapped the product, show the package outer condition first before opening.
  • Courier Returns (RTO) vs Customer Returns: You can claim for both, but customer returns require more detailed proof showing that the returned item does not match the product listing.

How to Record the Perfect Unpacking Video (Proof Guide)

Meesho's verification team reviews video evidence frame-by-frame. An uncut, clear video is your primary legal proof. Follow this setup to record valid evidence:

  1. Continuous Footage: Do not pause, cut, or edit the video. Single, continuous footage from start to finish is required.
  2. Focus on the AWB Label: Start the video by bringing the phone camera close to the barcode/shipping label. The Sub Order ID and Tracking Number must be fully readable in the video.
  3. Show All Six Sides: Rotate the package to show that all seals are intact and there is no pre-opening or tampering.
  4. Unpack in Clear View: Open the package within the camera frame. Show the product clearly, highlighting the damage, stains, or swap.

Step-by-Step Guide to Raising a Safe-T Claim

Follow these steps to file a claim in your supplier panel:

  • Step 1: Log into the Meesho Supplier Panel and navigate to the Support tab.
  • Step 2: Select the category Returns & RTO Disputes -> Raise Safe-T Claim.
  • Step 3: Enter the Sub Order ID. The system will populate return details.
  • Step 4: Select the correct issue type (e.g., *Wrong Product Received*, *Damaged Product*, *Missing Items*).
  • Step 5: Upload the unpacking video (limit to 50MB) and 3 clear photos of the damaged product and package label.
  • Step 6: Provide a brief description of the issue (e.g., "Received used shoes instead of cotton saree. See attached video proof showing AWB label.") and click Submit.

Common Rejection Reasons & How to Avoid Them

If your claim is rejected, review these common issues and correct your next filings:

  • "AWB Label Not Clear": Ensure your camera auto-focuses on the printed label at the beginning of the video. Hold the package still for 3 seconds.
  • "Video Edited or Fragmented": Never use video editing software. Transfer files directly from the recording device to your computer without compression.
  • "Wrong Claim Reason Selected": If you receive a wrong product, select "Wrong Product", not "Damaged Product". Selecting the wrong category results in immediate rejection.

Tracking & Reconciling Safe-T Claim Payouts

Once approved, the claim settlement amount is credited to your bank account. However, these payments are often listed under separate invoice headers in your payment report.

Reconcile these payouts against your open disputes to verify that you actually received the approved money. If an approved claim doesn't show up in your payouts within 14 days, raise a follow-up support ticket with the Safe-T Claim ID.
